One Art by Elizabeth Bishop

Chanced upon this poem in a movie I've watched on my flight back home:-

The art of losing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant to travel.
None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother’s watch. And look! my last,
or next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn’t a disaster.

—Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of losing’s not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

So in the movie Diaz talked about it with the professor, about how initially the writer lost “real” things like keys, and then she started losing metaphorical things like cities and contients. And Diaz talked about how this writer is faking nonchalance about losing, but actually she misses it all. (Ink Inc, 2007)

Two-two

So.. clearing my backlogs and starting with my birthday celebration, which was held around one month ago. Sorry for the late update, just came back  and prior to that i was dealing with my projects and my presentation.

Anyway, my closest friends came around and planned a birthday surprise for me, with the help of Sunny. It was really nice, and cliche as it sounds, REALLY didn't expect anything out of it because we already planned something (semi-passed?) for candy before hand, so i didn't think they would pull the same trick twice. But i guess that's why it worked, and i am super grateful for this bunch of friends who i can not only laugh, shout and play around, and also fight with lol. Not to mention my bf sunny who always never fail to celebrate with me. At the end of the day we all had super great fun.

I met sunny beforehand and supposedly met with candy cherelle at Novena for 2D1N korean BBQ, but all the girls came showing up  (with sunny, he supposedly 'left' before meeting them) and surprised the shit out of me! Anyway the food was really good, though it was really hot and oily too! Everyone dressed so well - i am in black shirt and shorts - ultimate bbq attire. Damn.

I have no idea why this photo appears so blur but heck it.

Went to punggol riverside to chill thereafter, and the remaining guys appeared - eric, benson, ricky + xinyi and they also gave me a cake surprise. yeah we were noisy lol

And then they gave me this pair of earrings which i have been wearing ever since~

Photo taken as i am blogging right now.. (soz for messy table, give this girl a chance la)

Thank you guys for staying with me every year and also Cherelle and Candy for planning this (and being the most tiring) Love you all! :)

Flying off

Flying off to another adventure in a few hours time! I'll be back next Saturday morning. Spent my past few weeks doing my work, planning the trip and Bobby fell sick which was unexpected and made me even busier. Luckily, he's recuperating very well and although he can't walk around much, (Dr. don't allow) he's super active!

I think this trip came in time? I needed a holiday and I am excited to meet my LW too!

Today was good. I poured my heart out and I wasn't the only one. I think both of us would feel... slightly better I suppose.

Anyway on a total bad note (BOO!!), Sunny is away for his crescendo which totally sucks because I can't see him for 3 weeks? More so until I come back. Can't wait~

ok I'm heading to sleep. Shall update soon if I can. Night all.
